About Ohio Safe Communities

Ohio Safe Communities is a statewide, data-driven initiative focused on reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities through collaboration among state, county, and local partners.

In FFY 2026, Ohio Safe Communities includes 44 countywide community-based programs working together to increase awareness, improve safety behaviors, and strengthen prevention efforts.

Although older adults are among the safest drivers on Ohio roads, the risk of injury or fatal crashes increases with age due to changes in vision, physical abilities, medical conditions, and medications.

ODOT’s Stay Fit To Drive initiative provides tools, resources, and educational materials to help older Ohioans remain safe and independent while driving.
